By Mary Ellen Winston, Holly Garrison
With the vast range of nationalities and cuisines represented by New York cabdrivers, a collection of cabbies’ favorite recipes is an intriguing idea. Winston, a costume designer who sometimes spends most of her days in cabs while in search of vintage clothing, accessories, and the like, began chatting with various drivers about the foods of their native lands and soon found herself seeking out recipes in taxi garages and on cab lines. With cookbook writer Garrison, she presents more than 100 recipes (many of the best cooks contributed more than one), along with profiles and stories, “Taxi Trivia,” and New York City history and lore. For area libraries and other larger collections.
